Handle App Review – Let Handle, Handle it

When smartphones and tablets hit the technology scene we saw a chance to use them as a way to help us in every aspect of our lives – an electronic diary, calendar, organizer and personal assistant all in one. As the years have passed companies such as Apple have researched how we’ve used their products and come up with more and more ways to improve their tech. In 2013 Handle, Inc released an app which in principle is a godsend for smartphone users worldwide. Described as a time-based to-do app, its aim is to bring together emails, calendar appointments and to-do lists to help you organize your life.

What Does Handle Offer?

The Handle app is an intricate piece of software which brings together other parts of your iPhone or iPad to allow you to easily organize what needs doing. It’s a boon for businessmen and women worldwide, who have struggled with the demands of their busy lives when using the older organizational skills of email accounts, such as flagging up emails and marking them as unread. Handle uses emails, calendar, to-do lists and reminders to make your phone or tablet more streamline and productive. It breaks down its process into four easy steps – Capture, Organize, Plan, Do. Let’s look at each of these in turn:

Capture your to dos

When you first have an idea or are first approached for a meeting, the first thing you need to do is capture it. Handle uses Siri and emails to gather the information, which can then be swiped into the to-do list.

Organize your Projects and Emails

You can use Handle’s to-do list function to organize your plans. This involves a mixture of reminders and due dates. You can also break down larger projects into smaller chunks so that you can see individual deadlines and progress made. Handle prides itself on making it easier to organize your emails. Instead of voice command or having to type in instructions, a few simple taps on the screen will prioritise tasks however you wish – ‘Must do’, ‘should do’ or ‘want to do’.

Plan Ahead

You can use the to-do function to plan what tasks need completing, not just on a daily basis but over a longer time period too. A nice feature of Handle is that its content can be accessed across Apple devices. For example, you could set up a meeting with a client on your iPhone then add more detail to the appointment on your iPad later.

Getting stuff Done

Now it’s up to you! Get those tasks done and achieve your potential! Even at this point the Handle app is there to help you; your own electronic personal assistant. The app will pop up with those all-important reminders, and you can see to-do lists and calendar items together. There are also different ways to view your emails, either as a review list or in a card-like format with more details. These little options allow for more flexibility and make it more likely that more people will be able to get to grips with it.

Is There Anything Handle Can’t Do?

It sounds too good to be true – all of your appointments and tasks in one place, with reminders and priorities set in place. But are there any flaws that you need to be aware of? As a relatively new app, there are a few areas for expansion. At the moment it only works for Gmail, but no doubt this is something that will change soon. There are also a few little niggles which some may find irritating. For example, the app automatically archives emails once a note has been added to the to-do list. However, this can be changed in the app’s settings, and it’s personal choice more than anything.

Therefore there will always be a need for apps such as Handle. As smartphones and tablets get more and more powerful they become more and more integrated into our everyday lives, particularly in our work.

Handle is now available on Apple’s newest gadget, the Apple Watch, meaning that it’s even easier to organize your day. For a free app, Handle is holding its own in the hustle and bustle of modern life.
