Review for Anker’s 60W 6-Port USB Charger and Keyboard Case

When deciding to upgrade to a multi-unit charger, it is probably best to consider a charging port. A popular charging hub is the Anker 40W 5-port high speed USB Charging Hub. Though this is a productive way to charge all of your devices at once, a newer, faster solution has gained recognition, the 60W 6-Port USB Charging Hub.

Comparing Charging Hubs

There is a subtle difference between the Anker 40w 5-port high speed desktop and the 60W 6-Port USB Charging Hub, it may actually be considered a distinction and not a difference. It is physically larger in length and height and it has an LED light at the top that indicates when it is plugged in and providing power. The 5-port does not have this feature. The bigger benefit may be the additional wattage that is present in the newer 6-port charging station, and many would agree that the extra port is useful, too.

The Importance of Wattage

Here are some details to consider when you are choosing a multi-port charging hub for your iPhone or iPad. I’m sure you have, at some point, tried charging your apple product by either plugging it into your computer or a standard phone or iPad charger.  There is nothing wrong with charging your device like that, but I’m sure you noticed that it took twice as long. This is because the standard USB port only provides 5 volts, 0.5 amps, and 2.5 watts. This allows your device to charge, but at a much slower rate. You can charge a device with less power, but it will take much longer.

An iPad charger puts out 5.1 volts, 2.1 amps, and 12 watts over the cable that is supplied by apple with the product. This is much higher than the iPhone charger. This allows you to charge the iPad at its maximum rate. The significance of the multi-port charger is that your total wattage for the 5 port is enough to charge two iPads and three iPhones, or you could charge 1 iPad, 1 wireless Bluetooth device, one iPhone, and one Mophie portable charger, etc. As long as the five devices are below 40 total watts, they will all charge at their fastest rate. If you go over 40 watts, that just means that not all of your devices will charge at their maximum rate.

In relation to the 6-port 60W charger, it is understandable the value of the sixth port and the extra 20 watts. Now you can charge two extra devices and they will still charge at the fastest rate as long as the total wattage is not over the 60W limit. You can make your own decision as to whether the difference is valuable. For me, the most valuable characteristic of the 6-port 60W charger is that I only need one outlet to charge all 6 devices at their maximum speed.

Expand your Experience

Tired of typos and tap-texting?? This keyboard will provide a fully functional keyboard that allows you to type at top speeds. You can enjoy an ideal typing experience with iPad-dedicated hotkeys and a keyboard that nearly mimics the full-size layout of traditional laptops. Once you lock your device into position on the magnetic strip, you are automatically connected to the iPad. The cover acts as a protector by lying flat and secure across the keys when you are using it as a handheld. It also doubles as a stand, providing an upright angle that is convenient for typing. There is also an automatic sleep/wake mode that can be triggered by opening or closing the cover.

Quality Protection

Don’t let the professional and stylish synthetic leather exterior fool you. This sleek folio cover has sturdy snap-in brackets and strong fiberglass panels that provide constant protection from falls, bumps, and other accidental abuse. The soft inner lining is coated with a soft microfiber material that supports and protects the screen to prevent scratches or spider breaks in the glass. There is no need to compromise style for durability.

Power Points

One of the things that you can count non Anker for, is quality products. To support this value statement, the keyboard contains a lithium rechargeable battery that can be recharged up to 400 times. You can charge your keyboard with your computer’s USB port, a USB AC wall charger or the USB charger in your car. It comes with a charging cable reaching 32 inches in length that has a USB plug on one end and Micro USB plug on the other.

Although I encourage this purchase, there are a few issues with this device. The pairing will be disconnected when you lift up the iPad to remove it from the case. You cannot be separated from the keyboard at any distance. The iPad has to be touching the magnetic strip to be paired. Another concern is that there is no magnetic latch to hold the case closed when it is not being used. Also, the magnetic strip is almost too strong. It actually pulls the iPad out of the top of the case when you prepare to fold it out of the tilt mode.
